Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan welcomed their first child, a daughter named Max last week, TVGuide reports. The couple, in true Facebook style, made their announcement through an emotional post.
31-year-old Zuckerberg and 30-year-old Chan have had problems conceiving a child in the past. The husband-wife duo had had three miscarriages before having Max. Zuckerberg even took two months of paternity leave.
The post includes a touching, heartwarming letter to his daughter highlighting the fact that he would do all he can to bring her up in a better world.
To show his support in making the world a better place for the next generation, Zuckerberg announced that he's to donate 99 percent of his and Priscilla's Facebook stock. Currently valued at approximately $45 billion, the shares would be donated during their lifetime to promote equality.
Their money will also be spent in research to prevent common causes of death that include heart disease.
Many celebrities and A-listers congratulated the couple.
Melinda Gates, wife of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and the co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, praised Zuckerberg in donating almost all of his Facebook shares to research.
"Welcome to the world, Max! Bill Gates and I can't wait to meet you. You are lucky to have such an amazing mom and dad,"
Gates' post read, "As for your decision to give back so generously, and to deepen your commitment now, the first word that comes to mind is: Wow. The example you're setting today is an inspiration to us and the world."
Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer of Facebook, Shakira and ex-wife of former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver, also congratulated the pair.
